Title: Ripping.
reverie] - February 27, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
It's been brought to our attention that one of our highly ranked artists has been ripped by a member. The staff and I have taken some time (our apologies that it's taken so long to post this, love) to see what should be done, seeing as we've never really had this kind of problem before. So, we've come up with basic guidelines for ripping.
IF YOU ARE FOUND TO HAVE RIPPED GRAPHICS OR ANYTHING ELSE FROM AN RCR MEMBER OF ANY RANK, YOU WILL BE:
1) Banned.
2) Reported to the other graphics sites around, such as PC & TDA. We might be rivals, but we still talk with each other.
3) Hated. A lot. We're all artists here and we know what it feels like to have work stolen. And let me tell you, it's not very good.
If it were up to me, I'd have a Wall of Shame on this site, but the other staff think that would be too mean to put up xD. But just to let you know, you screw up here in that respect, and you screw up in the entire graphics world. We don't tolerate this kind of rule breaking, and you will be punished.
-----
The thing that disgusts me most is that the person who ripped our lovely artist still denies doing it. She claims that her graphics were "inspired", when it is clear that you can see the erase marks that she used to get rid of our artist's text! Let me warn you, we can see through you're excuses. We may be silly and immature at times, but we are not dumb.
Love,
red carpet rebellion administration.
PS---
I didn't want to mention any names because it's not my place to do so. But if you want to come forward, that's your deal. The ripper's already been banned.

I hope its ok that I post a response to this. :)
I'd like to thank the mods&admin of RCR for handling this manner. I think its commendable that you all have backed me up in this and protected me as an artist. Thanks for taking this seriously. Even if they are just graphics, its nice to know the time and effort put into them is being respected. Thanks again! <3 <3

I'm glad to see that RCR is serious about this kind of thing, I've been ripped before and it's not a very nice thing at all.
I'm really sorry to hear that someone would go to such a level. I suppose it just shows how utterly awesome you are that someone would go to such lengths to be like you. I find it laughable that the person who ripped would even try and pretend that they didn't steal your work. If you want I'll poke them in the eye with a big stick. <3

That's pathetic, if there's one thing I hate more than people joining sites just to spam, it's ripping. It's just wrong and stupid
ohsweet_r.e.m.e.d.y - February 28, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
I hate it when you've requested a graphic and it is taken as well. But yeah, I think that ya'll did the right thing and they earn every bit of smack they get for it.
Go rCR!

OH god, ripping.
Thank you for doing such a thing as banning the person. God knows I have been ripped oh so many times. I just feel safe that the admins are all-out working against ripping.
Keep up the great work guys!+

I'm glad that all take this problem serious...First, it's just not fair to stole the work that is not yours: I think all feel about their creations, their inspiration. And second, just think at the rules... copying is ripping and ripping is piracy. It's forbidden to rip or stole things that aren't yours and it's just... illegal. Meh, youh know what I mean. I hope from now on, all will think about this and will decide to keep and appreciate their own work, not to steal the other's work.

Whoa ... that is ... *swallows* that is really ... bad ... *tries to keep mouth in check because of reacent reminders from the admins*
I mean ... HALLO? Up until now I never even knew there was such a thing :o Really ... when I read this I though "Huh? What does ripping mean?" .... taking graphics and claim them as your own is something I have allready expirienced but ripping :o that is just plain ... *kicks something*
Thanks for showing said members it's bounderies (you can't, by any chance, tell us who it was?) and help panicstrickyn (it was her, did I get that right?) she is such an amazing artist, one of my personal favs and she really didn't deserve this! My my ... Yes, there are sooo many people who're better then others and the other way around but ... Use the other people knowledge to learn, to do graphics like this YOURSELF! I can't even understand how the person didn't go red in the face everytime she posted it somewhere!

Hello my lovely members. I'm here because unfortunately we've run into yet another ripping problem. Guys, stealing graphics IS plagiarizing. You're stealing some one's hard work and ideas! We take this SO seriously! I can't stress enough how much we hate rippers! You WILL BE CAUGHT! There's no long and short of it. If you're ripping we WILL catch you. You cannot get away with it. We're not idiots; we watch lots of LJs, graphics websites, and other forums. So, if you take something that isn't on here and you're thinking you're so super and smooth, you really aren't. It may take a few days. It may take a few weeks, but trust me...rippers will not be tolerated. As an extra incentive not to rip, let me tell you that not only will you be banned from rcR, but we notify all the other graphics forums. Be honest. Be fair.

Thank you Biancs. I hate rippers. Why can't they just make their own work!
-- Sorry. I just need to make that comment.

ROFL, I have had to deal with this, as I used to have a gfx forum of my own. I find it pathetic and frankly plain old boring. No matter how much I might enjoy another artist's gfx, I would never in a million years even think about taking it for my own. I just can't believe that people think they won't be caught.
like most of you I am sure, I browse alot of gfx sites. Once you are one - eventually you are them all.
I feel sad for the artist(s) who were ripped and even though it is frustrating and can make you very angry...calm yourself with this....it has worked for me (at least for a second anyways :P )
Take it as a compliment to your artistic abilities and creativity. Too bad for them they have no sense of creativity and pride.

Honestly, I can't understand it. Sure, I've had times when I'd wished that I had made a graphic I saw. Wished and prayed that I could have been the one to make it. But I wasn't and I'd never take someone elses. People work hard on their graphics! Ripping is just...pathetic. If you can't make your own graphics, don't try to trick people. It'll ruin you and after you get caught [and you will get caught] you're blacklisted.
That's my two cents.
Universal.x - May 24, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
I think its great that this problem was being taken care of and that that person was caught. It is just pathethic to steal someone art work and claim them as their own. It shows they are immature and have no creativity. Well thats what i think. :P wierd how i don't have any creativity. But still, i don't go around stealing other artworks.
peaceness loves :]

let me get this straight.
they ripped their work from someone here
and then reposted it here?
talk about lack of common sense.
i mean where does ripping get you
in the end? you don't feel better for it
or get that feel of accomplishment like i do
when i finish a graphics piece.
but i suppose it's the highest form
of flattery and stupidity.
now a days it makes you wanna
slap a watermark on everything.
i actually had a ripper acuse me of
ripping my own artwork once. they
even managed to get their little buddies
behind them on the whole thing until i whipped
out my PSD file to the admins.
like: BAM!
big brother has just caught
you red handed.
always save your psd's!
distel - November 25, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
let me tell you about it.
Just yesterday I stumbled over a board - really, just an accident, I was there for an entirely different reason, and saw, suddenly, someone with a graphic from me and no credit. So I went around and looked where it could have come from.
Guess what I found? an entire post by some ***** with about 50 of my Kebab for Breakfast icons AND 50 icons from a VERY good friend of mine. I was so shocked I nearly let go of the mug I was holding.
ARG ... not supposed to whine here. I'm with Antionette, though:
It may be tiresome but always save your psd's, xcf's or how ever they are named!!!!
Everyone who rippes - go and die ... 'nuff said :(
my happy ending. - January 15, 2008 03:00 AM (GMT)
I really amend everyone here for caring so much about ripping.
I have experienced before and it's just the feeling that someone else ripped off of your inspiration and your creation - only for them to get the credit. Yes, this has happened to me before, and although the work wasn't my greatest, I was still offended that one would be so bold as to steal something I had created and worked on. What disgusts me even more is that a /close/ friend of mine ripped off of my work and redistributed it to many people claiming it her own work. Needless to say, she isn't exactly my friend anymore. But in the end, I really just have one thing to say to those who have, or have thought about ripping (i know you're lurking; couldn't resist a board about your illicit activities on RCR).
It's not worth it. You will be blacklisted and treated worse than dirt, and don't act like you don't deserve it - you know you do.

Please try and refrain from Necro-posting which is bringing up a dead topic. This topic is almost a year old so the issue is kind of over and done with. In a thread like this it can kind of stir up old drama so be aware of the last posts in threads and try and not bring something back alive after its been over for like a year or so. Thanks ^^
